Girl group NewJeans will begin the year with a fresh new EP titled “OMG,” set for release at 6 p.m. on Monday.
The title track “OMG” is a mix of hip-hop and R&B that talks about the awe of meeting someone new for the first time, especially during the winter, according to the band’s agency ADOR.
“The song is about the wish to be with someone, but the awkward distance and cautious emotion that people feel at first,” the agency said. “Just like the last release, this is also a story of growth and the way we are all growing together.”
Last month, the girl group pre-released dance track “Ditto” from the EP, which stormed music charts in and outside of Korea.
The track topped Chinese QQ Music’s charts for trending music and new releases as well as the music video chart on Dec. 20, a day after its release on Monday.
The two music videos for “Ditto” — titled side A and side B — also became the No. 1 and No. 2 trending videos on YouTube in Korea, and landed in the top ten on charts in the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan and France.
Having debuted last August with EP “New Jeans,” the girl group has been one of the hottest rookies on the K-pop scene so far. It set a new record for a debuting K-pop group by selling 311,271 copies of its first EP “New Jeans” in a week. Songs “Attention,” “Hype Boy” and “Cookie” have landed on the music charts of Billboard and Spotify.
