‘Parasite’ takes home another prize

The Learned Society of Korean Drama and Theatre announced on Friday that they picked “Parasite” as their Film of the Year.

In the theater division, “Camel Xiangzi” and “Tracking Down the Steel Container” were honored as the best of the year, while JTBC’s “The Light in Your Eyes” took home the TV prize.

“Camel Xianzi” is the theatrical adaptation of a Chinese novel of the same title which provides a portrait of young people living in 21st century. “Tracking” is based on a local novel by Kim Yoon-young which reveals ugly truths about social hierarchy and discrimination through apartments.

Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite” received acclaim for highlighting the social hierarchy of Korean society using numerous metaphors.

“The Light in Your Eyes” drew upon the beauty of life through distorting time and memories. The drama also drew sympathy from viewers about social problems brought about by the gender gap.

The winners were selected through votes made by members of the organization. They selected from a list of plays, films and TV dramas released or aired between last December and this November.
