Telecommunication company KT makes inroads into film world

Telecommunication company KT is planning to release its first commercial film “Double Patty,” which it invested, produced and will distribute in local theaters at the end of this year, the company announced on Wednesday.

The film is centered around youth struggling to achieve their dreams. Irene of girl group Red Velvet will make her screen debut in the lead role of Lee Hyun-ji, a wannabe newscaster.

The film will be released in theaters and also made available to subscribers of KT’s streaming service Seezn.

Beginning with “Double Patty,” KT plans to expand their area of original content from web drama series to creating and distributing films.

“Our original content played a crucial role in Seezn, and we have seen profits,” said Kim Hoon-bae, the head of KT’s New Media Business Unit. “We are planning to create and release more diverse kinds of original content which we hope will contribute to heightening the global competitiveness of ‘K-content.’”
